Entrance examinations & contract

Upon submitting the documents, all applicants must take entrance examination. Examination form is available at the International Students Office. After examination, the form must be returned to the Office.

In case of successful passing the entrance examinations an applicant should sign a Tuition contract.

In case the entrance examinations are not successfully passed, the contract cannot be made. The applicant must leave Russia within 5 days.

MUSICOLOGY

DEPARTMENT OF MUSICOLOGY

The department was established in 1925. Its traditions of teaching were founded by distinguished figures in Russia musical culture, and combine principles of both conservatory and university education. The training is provided in several fields: history of Russian music, history of music, ethnomusicology and old-folk-singing, theory of music, music criticism and theory of performing art.

Composition & Conducting

DEPARTMENT OF COMPOSITION AND CONDUCTING

The department was established by the great conductor Nikolay Malko who studied composing with Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov and conducting with Nikolay Tcherepnin. Famous musicians who graduated from the Conservatory are now teaching a new generation of conductors.

DEPARTMENT OF FOLK INSTRUMENTS

The department was established in 1960 by a group of post-graduates from the Gnesin Institute in Moscow. It quickly won recognition both in this country and abroad: many students of the department were awarded prizes at various prestigious festivals and competitions. Always prominent among the prize-winners are either balalaika or bayan players.

PIANO & KEYBOARD DEPARTMENT

The Conservatory’s oldest department was established in the second half of the 19th century. Over the years it drew all the best that existed in the performing arts tradition of Western Europe and developed its own style from which the Russian Piano School evolved. The department has always been remarkable for a large variety of artistic trends and aesthetic principles, which, different as they are, serve a single purpose.
