  • Diploma of complete secondary education (high –school diploma) or diploma from an accredited specialized music institution
  • Age: minimum age 18 years



Entrance examinations requirements:
A candidate must perform:

Violin

  • one caprice or an etude;

  • two movements (fast and slow) from a sonata or partita for violin solo by J.S.Bach;

  • 1st, or 2nd and 3rd movements from a concerto;

  • scales and arpeggios in all key.

Viola

  • one caprice or an etude
  • two movements (fast and slow) from a polyphonic work
  • 1st , or 2nd and 3rd movements from a sonata or concerto
  • one miniature work
  • scales and arpeggios in all keys

Cello

  • one etude
  • two movements from a solo suite by J.S.Bach
  • one large-scale work
  • one work of the candidates’ own choice
  • scales with double-stops and arpeggios

Double-Bass

  • one etude
  • any work
  • one work in classical style
  • one movement from a concerto or a technically-demanding work
  • solo from “Raymonda” by Glazunov

Harp

  • one caprice or an etude;
  • two movements (fast and slow) from a sonata or partita for violin solo by J.S.Bach;
  • 1st, or 2nd and 3rd movements from a concerto;
  • scales and arpeggios in all key.

Flute

  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)
  • two movements (fast and slow) from a concerto (or sonata)
  • one technically-demanding work by a contemporary composer

Oboe

  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)
  • two movements (fast and slow) from a concerto (or sonata)
  • one technically-demanding work by a contemporary composer

Clarinet

  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)
  • one fantasia or two movements (fast and slow) from a concerto

Bassoon

  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)
  • two movements (fast and slow) from a concerto (or sonata)
  • one technically-demanding work by a contemporary composer

French Horn

  • scales and extended arpeggios (low, mid- and upper register) to be played legato and staccato
  • one large-scale work, or one movement from a concerto and another lyrical work
  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)

Trumpet

  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)
  • one concerto or two works of contrasting character

Trombone

  • one caprice or an etude
  • two movements (fast and slow) from a sonata or partita for violin solo by J.S.Bach
  • 1st, or 2nd and 3rd movements from a concerto
  • scales and arpeggios in all key

Tuba

  • two etudes (one technically-demanding, one lyrical)
  • one miniature cantilena piece or a movement from a concerto

Percussion

  • xylophone – a short work
  • vibraphone – a miniature work preferably with 4 drumsticks
  • side-drum – an etude with tremolo
  • candidates are expected to show their ability to tune kettledrums, play tremolo in different dynamics and sight-read a simple piece



Russian language

1. Written test
2. Writing a summary of the text read aloud
3. Reading and retelling a text
4. Presenting a short report on one of the conversational topics
5. Brief conversation with the teacher on one of the everyday topics

Knowledge of Russian at the Intermediate level (Test of Russian as a Foreign language. First Certification level).
